In early 2025, a major vulnerability was discovered in several DrayTek routers, putting thousands of UK businesses at risk of cyberattacks.
This wasn't a rare or theoretical flaw — it was being actively exploited in the wild, leading to sudden reboots, remote code execution, and potential data exposure.
So how do we protect our clients from these types of threats? Let’s walk through it.
The vulnerability (CVE-2024-41592) was found in the web interface of certain DrayTek Vigor routers.
It allowed unauthenticated attackers to:
Crash the router remotely
Run malicious code
Potentially hijack the network
With over 700,000 routers publicly exposed, this wasn’t just a tech issue — it was a business continuity and data security risk.
At IT Support People, we take a layered, proactive approach to network security — and that includes your internet gateway.
Here’s what we do:
Outdated firmware = vulnerabilities waiting to be exploited.
We keep your routers, firewalls, switches and access points up to date — securely and without disruption.
Where automatic updates aren't possible, we schedule manual checks and rollouts.
Remote web access to routers is disabled unless absolutely necessary.
If required, we secure it using:
VPN access
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
IP whitelisting
Encrypted protocols only
We use real-time monitoring tools to detect:
Unusual reboots or traffic patterns
Failed login attempts
Changes to device behaviour
This means we can respond quickly, before small issues become major incidents.
Your router is the front door to your business. We:
Disable unused ports and services
Enforce strong admin credentials
Segment guest and internal networks
Configure proper firewall rules
We maintain full documentation of your network setup, device models, firmware versions, and configurations.
That way, if a new vulnerability is announced, we know instantly if you're affected — and act fast.
โ๏ธ Don’t rely on the router your internet provider gave you.
โ๏ธ Don’t assume your systems are up to date.
โ๏ธ Don’t leave remote access open “just in case”.
Work with a trusted IT support provider who understands the risks — and how to close the gaps.

Let’s book a quick security review and make sure your first line of defence is rock solid.
